Missing Persons Campaign and Rule Development

I have been somewhat remiss in my duties and have not written up recaps from previous sessions.

Characters:

Brick Soldier - a brick-strong Heroic from Capitol City
Starshine - a mystic with the ability to use shadows and starlight, from Great Arbor
War Urchin - a tech user with a gadget for everything, from Concord City

Story

*RECAP* The team made it back to the college (AIT) and were healed from the bio-fallout in session 3.  From there they continued their search for Dr. Recluse and investigated some of his old hideouts, running in to a Deviant creature called the Hatchery who spawns small bugs that attach to the back of a person's neck and controls their mind.  After defeating the Hatchery's spawns, they regrouped at Saint Superior's lair and found that the Saint was very ill.  They took him to AIT where it was revealed that some manner of biological device had been implanted within him.  SS was left in the care of the girls at the college and the group continued searching for Dr. Recluse.  A run in with the Dark Joke gang provided an additional tip that he was somewhere with trains, but while they investigated this lead they encountered a group of Mung Fu Monkeys looking for Koh'di.  The monkeys put the smack down on the team and demanded the turn-coat chimp be returned to them.  War Urchin promised to do so and then quickly recanted on her word.

The team returned to the college to plan their next steps and found that it was overrun by Slungos and Half-Amps from the Abscension Zone.  They worked their way through the levels of the school, finding some rare weapons (The Wand of Unmaking and the Baton of Fealty) and also freeing Ms. Moon and Alexa Universe who led them to the portal to the Abscension Zone.  A Deviant called Tyrannical Rex had come through and abducted one of the girls, Kid Flora and taken Saint Superior.  Going into the Abscension Zone, they found it to be a strange place where the laws of physics and logic did not apply.  Finally, they made their way to where Rex was holding Kid Flora, but were told that Saint Superior had already been given to Dr. Recluse.  They promised not to interfere with Rex if he sent them to where Recluse was and so were transported back to Centropolis. *END RECAP*

The most recent session picked up here with the team searching for Recluse.  Brick Soldier scouted a rooftop, trying to see if he could spot anything suspicious while Starshine and War Urchin went in search of a power plant to see if they could find an area draining more power than another.  On the way, the encountered a gang of Boss Leone's henchmen preparing to attack a laundromat.  They fought the men and then questioned the man inside, discovering that there was an illegal money laundering operation going on below.  The worker gave them a tip on a location for the Dark Joke gang if they overlooked the enterprise and the heroes agreed.

The Dark Joke gang were known to hole up in an old firehouse, but upon entering it was found to be empty.  War Urchin did find a map of a railway yard with notes and a drawing of a spider on it.  They then regrouped with Brick Soldier and began to scout the railway location, spotting some Dark Joke members on site.

[SIDE NOTE] During the time in the Abscension Zone, War Urchin began using the Baton of Fealty on Half-Amps to mind control them.  After several hours of not using it, a need began to overtake her to use it again.  If the need is not fulfilled, it can start to do harm to her. [END SIDE NOTE]

The team tried to convince the police to come, but they were not believed, so War Urchin used the Baton on a cop and made him head to the precinct to alert others.  Starshine then used her shadow stealth to infiltrate the compound and sneak into the main building, but an automated turret spotted her and began to fire.  This drew out more Dark Joke members who were then attacked by War Urchin and Brick Soldier.  During the battle, one of the turrets took down Brick Soldier, but the team was able to prevail.  They had to make a tough decision, to take Brick Soldier for medical help or continue on to Dr. Recluse.  It was decided that the threat of the bomb was more dire and so Brick Soldier remained behind in the hopes that medical help would come with the police.

Inside the main building, War Urchin and Starshine fought the remaining turret and also four more Dark Jokes, all who had powers themselves.  Beaten up, but still standing, the two prepared to go down to the lower level to confront Dr. Recluse.

Journeys in the Forever-Verse: Missing Persons (Session 3)

Missing Persons (Session 3)

This is the third session in the Missing Persons playtest campaign.

Characters:

Brick Soldier - a brick-strong Heroic from Capitol City
Starshine - a mystic with the ability to use shadows and starlight, from Great Arbor
War Urchin - a tech user with a gadget for everything, from Concord City

NPC's

Koh'di - a martial arts chimp in the Mung Fu Monkeys who has been taken in by the heroes.
Saint Superior - A Heroic who was also in the cells and just recently awoke.

Story

The team, armed with the knowledge of Dr. Messer's rustic cabin, decided to head out to find the missing scientist.  As they left Saint Superior's secret lair, they found the morning newspaper with a headline pertaining to them: MYSTERY HEROICS TAKE THE BATTLE TO THE GANGS.  The article, written by Centropolis's own Tamara Tayte recounted the adventures of session 2 where both a gang of Flying Devils and Dark Jokes were taken down by the heroes.

During their journey across Centropolis, the team first ran into Tamara Tayte and spoke with her briefly, confirming their role in battling the gangs from her article.  She gave a card with her contact information to the team and asked for any exclusive stories they could give her.

Continuing on, they spotted a green streak in the sky that began to attack a nearby building.  Curious as to what was happening, the team ventured closer and saw that two young girls were firing back at the flying green man who was shouting, "You shall not hide the power from Nuclearrow!  I will have it all!"  Nuclearrow, armed with a bow capable of shooting nuclear bolts continued to assault the building.  War Urchin, Starshine and Brick Soldier joined the girls in defending the building and were able to repel Nuclearrow who disappeared in a flash of green light.

The two girls on the roof, Alexa Universe and Ms. Moon were protecting two others who had been injured during the attack, Wish Girl and Alley Cat.  The team helped bring the two injured girls inside and learned that they were at the Anderson Institute of Technology (AIT), one of the country's most prestigious technical colleges.  The Dean and Founder of the school, Dr. Penny Anderson came in took to caring for the two injured girls and healing any wounds in the team.  The girls were a part of a special Masters program at the school that taught exceptional young women how to use and control their powers.

Dr. Anderson, gave the team a satellite image of the cottage they sought and told them to come back if they needed help.

There were two routes open to the team, following a road and approaching through the woods.  Choosing to move through the woods, they climbed a small ridge and were confronted by a grizzly bear.  They tried to circumvent the bear, but it was tenacious in pursuing and attacking them.  They soon discovered, as it grew to five times its normal size that this was no ordinary bear.  Using coordinated attacks, the team pushed the bear towards the ridge, but were able to defeat it before it went over the side.  Before their eyes it transformed into a rugged looking mountain man.  Choosing to keep an eye on the man, Brick Soldier carried him over his shoulder as they continued toward the cabin.

Arriving, they could see the cabin was occupied as smoke rose from the chimney, but could not see inside.  Starshine chose to sneak towards the door and as she did a shot rang out, skimming her shoulder.  War Urchin focused on where the shot came from and saw a glint of light.  Taking a shot of her own, War Urchin hit whoever was on the far rocks and the team all raced inside the cabin where they found Dr. Messer jumping down into a panic room.  Brick Soldier pursued and with his Superior Strength, ripped the panic room door open and jumped down inside, followed by War Urchin.

Starshine stayed behind in the cabin and felt a sinister presence enter.  The Deviant known as The Unseen tried to enter, but was discovered by the sorceress and the two battled.  Starshine saw that The Unseen kept reaching out a hand to touch her and kept distance between the two.

Below, Brick Soldier and War Urchin attempted to interrogate Dr. Messer who recognized them from their captivity at the Eudicys complex.  He shouted that Baromis were protecting him now, and the Heroics should leave.  Brick Soldeir knocked him out and decided they should take him with them while War Urchin set the panic room to detonate the cabin.

Outside, the sound of a motor buzzing was growing louder, but several shots from a rifle caused whatever it was to explode and shower the cabin with a lethal green gas.  The Unseen, trying to escape the cabin, ran into the gas and fell to the ground.  The team, with little time remaining before the cabin exploded, took the doctor and tried to cover their faces, but upon entering the gas cloud, they felt tiny particles attaching to their skin and boring inside.  From their recollection of the map, the made their way to a small pond and tried to jump in, but the water had no effect of the particles.

As they climber out of the water, a man who looked strangely like a prohibition hobo approached.  War Urchin identified him as a truly evil individual and began to fight him, shoving a grenade into his mouth and disintegrating his lower jaw.  The Deviant known as Mr. Wheaton was not dead yet, but there was no time to finish him off as the sniper, in gleaming grey armor was stalking towards them.

The team left the woods and made their way back into the city, getting weaker by the moment.  They decided to go back to the AIT lab to see if Dr. Anderson might have a way to help them.

This is where the third session ended.

Journeys in the Forever-Verse: Missing Persons (Session 2)

Missing Persons (Session 2)

This is the second session in the Missing Persons playtest campaign.

Story:

Brick Soldier, Starshine and War Urchin all stood upon the muddy bank of a large river, a giant city rising to the skies all around them.  Before they could ascertain where they were, Brick Soldier heard a scream from the abandoned Eudicys building behind them and they went in to investigate.  The interior looked as if it had not been used for its intended purpose in a long time and was covered in spray paint and garbage.

Brick Soldier climbed up the empty elevator shaft while the others took the stairs to the fifth floor.  When they reached it, they found five members of the Flying Devil gang threatening a girl.  [Snowboy Note: The Flying Devil Gang wear red leather coats and control most of the Southwestern sections of the city.]  They took down one member before a second thug grabbed the girl and put a knife to her throat.  Brick Soldier clobbered the scoundrel, sending him sliding across the room.  The other three gang members surrendered, but two were overly mouthy and War Urchin knocked them out, breaking some bones in the process.  The final one gave no opposition.

The team relived the gang members of their phones and found out from map searches that they were in Centropolis, one of the largest cities in the country.  They called the local police and let them know that the gang members were there.  When they questioned the girl, they found out that she was there to buy a new drug from the gang called Black Jack.  War Urchin admonished her for her drug addiction and told her to seek help.  As none of the heroes are from Centropolis, Brick Soldier tried to talk the girl into taking them to her place so they could regroup [A 1 was rolled on the Persuade attempt] but the girl was freaked out by him and ran off.

Going back outside, the group found that the unconscious heroic they brought with them had now awoken.  He told them his name was Saint Superior and that he was a native of the city.  After some discussion, he agreed to take them to the area of the city called Northwatch, which is where he had his secret hideout.

Map of Centropolis broken into sections
Beginning from the Grant Flats area, the team traveled by War Urchin and Saint Superior flying and had made it to East Centropolis when members of the Dark Joke Gang, upon a rooftop began to throw things at them.  [Snowboy Note: The Dark Joke Gang is known for being mentally unbalanced and often wear multi-colored clothes sewn with patches.  They usually attempt to steal scientific equipment and researchand like to experiment on themselves in an attempt to give themselves abilities.]  War Urchin dropped a concussion grenade, but the gang was able to dive away from the impact.  While most of the gang used chains to attack, one member had a sonic screm that knocked War Urchin from the sky.  Brick Soldier dive-bombed the screamer while the others attacked the lesser members.  Saint Superior was only somewhat helpful as he kept collapsing during the conflict, but Koh'di jumped in to help.  A chain attack knocked Koh'di out quickly, which enraged War Urchin who felled several gang members.

Concept Sketch of Knock Knock, leader of the Dark Joke Gang
After all of the Dark Jokes had been defeated, they were tied up for the police.  Brick Soldier stopp upon the edge of the building and flexed for the gathered crowd below, trumpeting his victory over the gang.  Starshine, faded into the shadows so as to not be seen during this.

The group continued on, getting lost once but ultimately reaching their destination.  Saint Superior's hideout was behind and underneath an old church in one of the high-end Northwatch neighborhoods.  While there, the team used the computer system to discover that they had been missing for three weeks and had no memory of how they had been abducted.  That mystery would have to wait though as they focused on the clues they uncovered from the lab they escaped from.

Through searching, they found that Eudicys had been a company in the mid to late 80's that had done a lot of work on the Star Wars defense system and had been researching deep space engines and propulsion.  They became overburdened by funding scandals and disappeared entirely by 1989.

They moved on to searching for information on Dr. Messer, the only missing scientist from the lab.  The first search provided over two hundred different Messers but through careful research they narrowed it down to one who had been a bio-engineer with a company called Orvium-Janus Pharma.  It seemed that Dr. Messer had lost a wife two years earlier and had soon after been let go from OJP.  Further research found that the last known address had been foreclosed upon.  Using social media, they found an old profile for Dr. Messer's wife.  Through a group effort they created a believable false profile of their own and contacted the last person who had posted on her page.

After several emails back and forth they learned that Mrs. Messer had owned a cabin in the mountains northeast of the city.  It was possible that the Doctor could be there.

Saint Superior was still feeling ill from the ordeal and needed to rest, claiming that his superior physique would heal him in no time.  War Urchin seemed wary of this claim and decided that instead of leaving Koh'di in the care of Superior, they would take the monkey with them.  The heroics spent some time debating on how they were going to get to the cabin before Starshine charmed him in to letting them use his personal car.

This is where the session ended.

Journeys in the Forever-verse: Missing Persons (Session1)

I'm very happy to announce that Snowboy Comics is working in partnership with Bedrock Games to produce an RPG called Journeys in the Forever-verse based on the characters and world of Snowboy Comics and using the Bedrock Games Network System.  Below is a recap of the first session of play-testing.

Missing Persons (Session 1)

Characters:

Brick Soldier - a brick-strong Heroic
Starshine - a mystic with the ability to use shadows and starlight
War Urchin - a tech user with a gadget for everything

Story:

The three Heroics woke up in windowless steel cells with translucent energy shields for doors.  As they came to, clueless as to how they got there, they witnessed a cybernetic, spider-like man with four robotic legs move past.  Behind this man, two automatons dragged an unconscious alligator-man between them.  War Urchin stood and yelled at the jailers, but they paid her no attention.  Realizing that she was missing her armor and weapons, War Urchin used a piece of metal to strike the energy shield, and as she did so, the shield of the other two cells overcharged and sent a wave of energy at the other occupants.

The three Heroics began conversing and Brick Soldier attempted to form a Stone Shield in the middle of the beam, but it pushed his shield back and sent energy at Starshine and War Urchin.  It occurred to them that each time they did this, the energy shield that was struck dimmed slightly.  They then each attacked the energy shield simultaneously which shorted out the cells and freed them.

Now free, they found a fourth Heroic, still unconscious in an adjoining cell, and attempted to revive him, but were unable to wake him.  Brick Soldier took up a position by the door that the robotic jailers went while Starshine and War Urchin went through the door to the left.  They discovered a large maintenance room with a generator and War Urchin's gear.  Reunited with her armor, she was able to spot two humanoid shapes at the far end of the room that were employing stealth-tech.  War Urchin launched a boomerang at one and struck it in the head, causing both to drop their stealth and attack.  The newcomers were the same type of automatons seen earlier and the battle lasted for several rounds before the heroes successfully dispatched them.  As the automatons fell, they turned red and began to hum violently, so the Heroics ran from the room before the two exploded.

With only one way left to go, the team moved through the door Brick Soldier was guarding and in to another hallway.  Each side of the hall was lined with three doorways and the floor had a strange logo emblazoned upon it.  Starshine quickly noticed that there were once again two stealthed automatons at the far end, so Brick Soldier walked down and used his patented Brick Punch to crack one in the head.  Having been attacked, the automatons once again retaliated by grabbing Brick Soldier's ankle, swinging him over their heads and slamming him to the ground.  War Urchin threw more boomerangs and Starshine shot more Eldritch Bolts until the fight ended.  However, as these two were destroyed, the simply fell down and did not explode as the others had.

Deciding to proceed through the door that the automatons were guarding, the Heroics found themselves in yet another hallway, this one with only one door on each side and a collapsed door at the far end.  Brick Soldier examined the collapse and found it to be impassable.  They then went through the left-hand door to discover an old burned out executive office that appeared to have been abandoned in the mid 1980's.  Oddly, there was half of a human jawbone under the desk, which Starshine put into a pouch in case a future ritual called for it.

The door to the right led them into a large warehouse room that had been recently retrofitted into a laboratory.  On one of the tables, they could see the body of the alligator-man and on the floor around him the bodies of three scientists who had recently been shot.  Upon examining the alligator-man they found that he was dead.  War Urchin heard a noise in the rafters, but could not see anything.  At that moment two more automatons appeared and attacked.  As the Heroics began to fight the automatons, two monkeys with cybernetic harnesses and wearing gi's dropped from the rafters and started to attack as well.

The monkeys employed several Abilities, including a Tandem Strike where they whipped one another at the team and a sword throw that almost struck War Urchin and then bounced off a wall and injured Starshine on its return.  The monkey gave Starshine an eyebrow wink as it caught the sword, which enraged the mystic who retaliated by forming the light in the room into a giant star-headed mace which she struck the monkey with.  The battle continued with the automatons falling first and then the one of the monkeys.  Upon seeing his partner felled, the second monkey tried to escape but was stopped and knocked out by the Heroics.

Starshine stabilized the monkeys and tied them up to interrogate them.  They found one monkey to be quite mean and intractable while the other was cowardly.  Upon separating them into different rooms, Starshine and War Urchin were able to get the cowardly monkey, Koh'di, to talk.  He told them that they are part of the Mung-Fu Monkeys and Master Tatonga Khan was hired to have them protect the lab.  By sweet talking Koh'di further, Starshine was able to get from him that the cybernetic spider was Dr. Recluse and that after the alligator-man died he had left with several vials, but did not know where he had gone.

In the other room, Brick Soldier attempted to goad the other monkey by antagonizing him, but he gave up nothing further.  The others returned and tried to trick the angry monkey by saying that Koh'di had already spilled the beans, but the deception was seen through and he stopped responding to the Heroics.

War Urchin then hacked into one of the computers in the lab and Brick Soldier was able to decrypt a few of the files and phrases to discover that there had been four scientists working in this lab and that one was now missing, Dr. Steinman Messer.  Also, they found mention of the project that was being worked on, Geniton Bomb Project.  Finally, they found an image of the logo that was on the hallway floors with an image tag giving the name Eudicys.

Having gotten all of the info they could, the Heroics retrieved the unconscious man from the cellblock and Koh'di and left the facility through a carved out tunnel and ascended a long staircase that opened to a hatch.  Stepping through the hatch they found themselves on the banks of a large river with skyscrapers all around.  Not being from this city, none of them immediately recognized where they were, but saw that directly behind them was a large abandoned office building.

The Weekly Sketchbook

Each week during my 9-5 job's morning meetings, I like to doodle on the service report I print out.  Sometimes the sketches are geometric or nonsensical (at one point I went through a maze faze) and sometimes they give birth to new Heroics or Deviants.

A while back I had come up with this idea of a WWII graphic novel about a bunch of Deviants sent into Germany to fight the Nazis.  I have always been a big WWII fan and movies like the Dirty Dozen, Das Boot, Force 10 and even more recently Band of Brothers or Inglorious Bastards.  Why not then do a mashup of these and Suicide Squad?  It was a fun idea that I rolled around the noodle for a bit but ultimately was never excited enough about to take any further.

Last week, riding the Blue Line in to town, I thought of one of my favorite WWII movies, Kelly's Heroes.  It's a fun romp starring Clint Eastwood and Donald Sutherland about a group of soldiers who want to rob Hitler of some gold.  Hollywood did an update of this a while back starring Clooney called We Three Kings, but Kelly's Heroes did it best.  This got me thinking again about the WWII Deviant idea and what it would look like if they weren't sent in to Germany, but went on their own to rob the Nazis!  Now I was excited.

The morning meeting went on for a while and my pen worked furiously, sketching out the bottom dwelling madmen crazy enough to want to go into a warzone for some gold and glory.

The lineup from left to right are: Mr. Ghastly, a half-zombie; Snowfall, an aging stage magician who can freeze things with a touch; The Ugly Archer; Golden Back, a doctor who made a formula that could turn him into a golden backed gorilla for one hour at a time; Professor Perfect, the most evil genius alive; Blue Dragon, a mystic who can fly and shoot blue flames; Crimson Dame, a mob assassin and the Eyeball, a hypnotist with a flair for the dramatic.

I named them the Filthy Few and the basic idea of the adventure is that the three core members, Ugly Archer, Prof. Perfect and Snowfall all are tired of being beaten up trying to rob banks in Centropolis.  It just so happens that the Archer knows a guy who's brother is over in France and keeps talking about all of the swag they are taking back from the Nazis when they liberate a town.  One bad decision leads to another and off they go.

I won't say much more now, as I'd like to develop this idea further, but keep an eye out for more!

Character Profile: Fireballer

Character Profile: Fireballer

The Fireballer isn't the flagship character by any means, to me that is The Grin (Seen above on the blog's title card.) but he has always been my first superhero creation.  First created back in the neon days of 1985, he was a sort of hybrid of Human Torch, Green Lantern and Spider-Man.  An odd combination, to be sure, but my adolescent mind thought it was the coolest idea ever.  Here was a fiery hero who was also part of a galactic army and worked as a photographer on Earth.  [Nebcron Note: When you're a kid, originality can sometimes be a relative concept.]

In those days I would randomly draw my hero on a sheet of paper, fighting against some unnamed galactic villain.  They would shoot beams at each other until the piece of paper was covered in incoherent scribbles and I would throw it away.  It wasn't until '87 that I sat down and made a "comic book" for the Fireballer.  [Nebcron Note: That year I also released the widely popular Teenage Mutant Psycho Ninja Ducks.  Yes, they were ducks and they were psycho, so totally different than the Turtles.  *Sigh*  Also, widely popular meant that five kids in my class read it and wanted a second issue.]

The first and only issue.  Published June 1987.

As you can see, the first iteration of the Fireballer was something of a scribbled man-shaped blob and the story within is a riveting tale of him flying around lighting muggers on fire.  To differentiate him from the Human Torch, I gave him a He Man style cross guard on his chest.  Good times.  Fortunately, as time has gone on, my ability to draw has gotten marginally better.  Another fun fact about the first Fireballer was that he didn't have a name.  He was just the Fireballer; poor fiery sap.  Leafing through the rudimentary pages, which I have purposely not shared here due to overwhelming embarassment, I found that the whole idea of Fireballer being a photographer was never even mentioned or explored.  Alter-egos weren't my thing back then, that's the story I'm going with anyway.

I spent a lot of time drawing during High School in the 90's and even though I created a large number of characters and drew even more for Orvis, I would always come back to Fireballer.

Fireballer 2.0
Here you can see that the Fireballer took a more human form, sans proboscis, and had a eye wrap mask, fiery hair, a wrestler's onesie combining his shirt and pants, boots, gloves and some Liefeld-esque arm bands.  Fireballer still had no alter-ego or name, but he managed to acquire an arch-villain at this point; Hurricane!  [Nebcron Note: Who has since become Hurrikan.  You'll have to wait for a profile on him for more info!]

I can't pin down the era of this next version, but it was somewhere between High School and Los Angeles.  The cross guard made a (thankfully) brief return and Fireballer was starting to shed clothing like Dr. Manhattan.  The FL on the Depends-style underpants was for Fireballer League.  Fireballer thanks me for not sticking with this design for so many reasons.

Moving along in the 90's, living in Los Angeles gave me more time to draw as I worked in a comic shop.  I created a series of posters for a giant universe spanning series a la Zero Hour.  It was called Angel's Falling and of course, Fireballer was the star of one of the posters.  The clothing is once again gone, replaced by flames.  [Nebcron Note: The streaks in the back are the Mysoni, an alien race of living technology.  This was their first appearance on paper.]

Finally, we get to the current era of the Fireballer.  After the launch of Nebcron Comics in 2004, the Fireballer was relegated to a Silver Age, team of old called the Samaritans.  That team disbanded and the Fireballer took to the stars, never to be seen again.  There he might have remained if I hadn't come up with two origin stories for a character named White Star.  I loved both stories so much that I struggled to let one of them go, so I re-worked the idea, changed one to be the Fireballer and ushered the my original superhero into the current era of Nebcron.

Fireballer circa 2016!
For me, this is the final version of the character.  His hero form is human, but glows golden yellow.  The white bands are not set, but instead move along his body.  It might be a little dizzying in live action, if the Fireballer were ever so lucky to make it there, but I like the idea and it adds a little throwback element to that original cross guard design.  [Nebcron Note: The above is a generic human form I found online and edited to meet my needs.]  The age in the picture is probably wrong as the current Fireballer would be about 16.  And he finally has a name, a truly respectable superhero name; Andy Abbott.

I have a rough breakdown of the first Fireballer graphic novel down on paper and hope at some point to give it some life.  I won't give much more info on who Andy is now or what his background is because those are elements that take life through the tale, but I'm pleased with how the idea has grown and evolved over the years.

The Past is Prologue

Nebcron Comics logo
The idea of Nebcron Comics has been a long time in forming.  I started putting it together in 2004 with a semi-thought out team called The Power Company.  (Yes, I'm aware DC published a limited series with a similar name, but other than name the two are wholly unrelated.)  It was truly the first venture in a long time that hadn't been in some way connected to Orvis's Snowboy Comics Universe.  I spoke with various artists throughout the community and got some fantastic art, but really nothing became of the Power Company in that incarnation.  And truly, other than my own musings, Nebcron Comics itself went into a sort of dormancy.  I've continued creating and commissioning art here and there, but aside from that the universe my heroes existed in only felt half-formed.

Then in July, 2013 I lost my co-creator, my best friend, the guy I had experienced so much of my life with.  It was difficult to know that someone so passionate about comic books, superheroes and their exploits would no longer be around to discuss new developments.  Thankfully, before he passed away, Steve wrote down a guidebook to the Snowboy Universe.  Speaking with Steve's family and his widow, Beth, I gained their blessing to take that Universe and bring it to life.

Logo I created for Steve for
Snowboy Comics
What followed from there was something akin to Crisis on Infinite Earths where two Universes, who were connected by shared characters yet very different, smashed together.  When the pieces of that almagamation settled, I found that the history I yearned for with Nebcron was provided by Snowboy and the rich tapestry Steve painted.

My goal from here is to lay out the combined Universe and share with you all the various notes, character designs, tidbits and ideas that Steve and I put so much time and love in to.  I'm currently working on what I hope will morph in to graphic novels retelling the history of the world, but until that happens, I at least have this outlet.  Below is the first page from the first graphic novel entitled, Elder Days.  The image is Orvar the Havoc Magus returning to his castle stronghold.

Pg 1 - Elder Days

As Steve loved to say, "Keep 'em burning!"
